Snell was an interesting guy. He attended Chicago Theological Seminary, where his degree thesis was on the religion of the Eskimo. His master's thesis, at the University of Chicago, concerned "The Moral Significance of Childrens' Reading." A prolific writer for children, Snell penned numerous mystery stories (a boys' series and a girls' series), girls' adventure books, volumes of the Jimmie Drury and Fighters for Freedom series, and a number of books about Eskimos and the Arctic.
