Wednesday
Welcome New Year! I hope it
will be a happy new year to us all. Mr and Mrs Faust[?] took
dinner at D.K. Myers's to day. Mrs A.F. Klee called, also Mollie
K. Burger and Verna. Mrs Faust and I were out at Mishionary
society.
January 2, 1896 --
Thursday
Mrs and Mr Faust went home
this evening. Grandma and I [short illegible word] out to
Church. Will and Frank stayed at home.
January 3, 1896 --
Friday
Will and I went to New
Franklin to attend Institute. We drove home in the evening.
Grandma kept small Frank. Thesta[?] Ethel and John called.
January 4, 1896 --
Saturday
I did not go away from the
house. Mrs Nickles gave birth to a little baby girl this
evening. The children stayed with me.
January 5, 1896 --
Sunday
We were all at Sabbath
School. Will and I stayed for Church. Frank went home to
Grandma. Will, Frank and I were at C.E. Society and stayed for
church. Grandma was at church. Mrs Nickles is not so well.
January 6, 1896 --
Monday
Mrs Nickles died this
evening, left 6 children, the youngest only a few days old. Very
sad indeed. I was up to see Thesta. Frank started to school
today, he was put in the B. class.
January 7, 1896 --
Tuesday
Will was at Greencastle to
day visiting schools. Will was out to church this evening. I did
not get out, I was feeling badly all day. Mrs Lyneniger[?]
called.
January 8, 1896 --
Wednesday
I was at church this evening.
I had Mary and Susan over all day. Will moved his office
this morning.
January 9, 1896 --
Thursday
Will and I was out to church
this evening. Mrs Nickles was laid away to awaite the last day.
She had many friends and her funeral was a large one. I feel
very sorry for the Husband and children. Thesta got a posi[ti]on
in the Laundary.

A.F. Klee. I was out to church. Will was out visiting schools.
Frank has gone one week to school and he likes it very much.

Mrs Annie Klee and i were out calling. Will went to
Stowsburg[?] to attend Institute. May Funk called, one of my
Sunday School scholars. Verna spent the day with Frank.
Thesta called.

We were all at Sabbath School and church. We had our
communion to day. Will and [illegible] at C.E. in the
evening, also at church. Frank and Grandma stayed at
home.
January 13, 1896 -- Monday
Will was out visiting schools. Mrs A.F. Klee called
for me to go along to the store. I was out at
Trinity Lutheran Church with Mrs Carper[?] and Mrs
Huber. Dr. Martin of the College preached. I called
with them on Mrs John Elder.

I was out calling. I was at [illegible] we met
at Mrs Dornsburg's. Will was out visiting
schools.
January 15, 1896 -- Wednesday
Grandma and I was at Zion's Reformed Church
in the evening. Will was out visiting
schools. Miss Jacoby and Miss Seibert
called.
January 16, 1896 -- Thursday
Mrs Huber and I were at church at the
Second Lutheran this evening. The
meetings are highly attended. Frank
stayed with Grandma.

Will went to Edenvill, will stay out there to night. Frank and I came to St. Thomas.

Mrs Fris[?] Miller and little Mary and Mrs Eberly called. Also Mrs. Byres. Will was visiting schools.

I called on Mrs Fris Miller and Mrs Clate[?] Martin. Will was visiting schools to day. Old Mr Corner was buried to day.

We came home to day after spending a nice day. Mother had not been so well had grip but is now better. Father is feeling better. Will visited the [illegible] at St. Thomas to day.

I ironed.
Uncle John called. I was up to see Mrs McCleary to make me a basque**.

Will was not feeling well to day, was bilious. I called to see Mrs A.F. Klee.

Frank and I was at Sunday School. Will was not feeling well he did not go. I was at church and C.E. evening.

I was up at Mrs. A.F. Klee's.
Bro. Elmer came down to hear Patterson's lecture but failed to get here, having missed the train in Washington D.C.
February 4, 1896 -- Tuesday
Mrs. A.F. Klee called. We went to Mercersburg on the evening train. Lillie Faust was at the train to meet us. It was snowing when we left.
February 5, 1896 -- Wednesday
Rained all day and evening. We were to hear to hear Dr. Byron W. King who gave an entertainment at the Hall.
February 6, 1896 -- Thursday
I went to Sadie's and Maggie's this morning. Mrs George Shaffer called. Mrs Davie Shaffer and Lizzie called also. Susie Grove called on me.
February 7, 1896 -- Friday
Sadie and I was out calling. We came home this evening after having spent a nice time.

Molle Burger called in the afternoon. I had a head ache. I was down street shopping for Mrs Faust and Sadie Klee.

Thesta and the children went to St. Thomas. We were all at Sabbath School and church. I was at C.E. and church in the evening. John and Mollie Burger called.

Ethel spent the day with us. Thesta came home this morning. I called up to see Mrs. A.F. Klee and brought my palm home. I had a letter from Lizzie Grove.

I was painting a little to day. Will was away visiting schools and it was a very bad day so very stormy. Tippy stamped in a nail. The Ladies Mite Society met here this evening.

Frank was at Willie Teater's atending his birth-day party. Annie Klee and I were out calling.
February 13, 1896 -- Thursday
Rained and snowed a little to day. Uncle John called.

I called at Miss Lizzie Wicke's.

Frank and I was out to see Bro. George's grave that is all that we can see of him. I think it can't be that he is not with us any more. Will was at Waynesboro this morning attending Institute and this afternoon he was at a flag raising.

We were at Sabbath School and church in the morning, in the evening we were at C.E. society and church.
February 17, 1896 -- Monday
Will and I visited Frank at school. He is getting along nicely. To day I am 33 years old, my dear Hubby got me a teachers Bible and dear little Frank got me a present of a nice little box with writing paper. I was down town and got myself a black dress skirt.
February 18, 1896 -- Tuesday
Mrs Stouffer from Mercersburg and Lizzie Strowbridge called and I went down street with them. Mollie Burger called.

Mollie Burger and I was out calling this afternoon. This is a very cold day.

Will went to Harrisburg to day with the Colonels to attend a banquet. Frank and I was up to call on Mrs A.F. Klee.

Mrs A.F. Klee and I called on Mrs Hornbaker. I sat for my pictures.

Frank and I was at the fair. Verna and Ethel was up to see Frank.

We were all at Sabbath School and church and C.E. and church in the evening. Miss Yoshida a native of Japan spoke to us in C.E. and church.

Verna is seven years old to day.
Will and I went to hire Polk Miller. Girlie kept Frank. Frank is not feeling so well. I had a letter from Lizzie Grove.

Mrs Hornbaker called, also Mrs. A.F. Klee. Frank is feeling better to day.
February 26, 1896 -- Wednesday
Will left for Waynesboro this morning, will get back this evening. Frank is better, he was at school this afternoon. Mrs Clark Barz called.

Will went to Waynesboro this morning and will stay there to night. Frank and I was at the birthday Social at Mr Shouber's[?] wich was given by our mite society. We took in $3.40. Sue Boughey[?] called, also Mr Atherton.

Mollie Cook and Ret came this morning. Ret went home, Mollie will stay a few days. Will came from Waynesboro this eve. His Mother came with him.

I was feeling badly all day and Mollie was not very well. Did not get away from the house all day.

I was not away from the house all day. Will and Frank was at Sabbath School. Will was to church morning and evening.

Will took Grandma Zumbro home this morning.
Mollie and I was out this afternoon.

Mollie went home this evening. I was up at the depot to see her off. I also stayed to see Mrs Smith nee Sue Boughey leve for Lancaster.

I was up to see Mrs McCleary. I called on Mrs A.F. Klee.

I was painting all day. Mrs Annie Brant brought me my switch. It matches my hair very nicely.

Uncle John called. I was painting to day. I was not feeling well all day.

Mrs A.F. called. I was down and got some medison from doctor, feel better.

We were all at Sabbath School. Frank and I came home after S.S. Will went to [St.] Thomas for Grandma Zumbro. I was at C.E. society. Will and I went to Zion's Reformed Church this evening to here Rev. W.F. Stewart.

I was painting.
Mollie Burger called. Ethel spent the day here.
March 10, 1896 -- Tuesday
Mrs A.F. Klee spent the afternoon with me. We made a little bonnett. I called up to see Mrs McCleary with regards to making my cape.
March 11, 1896 -- Wednesday
I was sewing to day. Snowed all day. This is the bigest snow this winter.
March 12, 1896 -- Thursday
Will Frank and I took a sleigh ride to St. Thomas. It was a very cold day. We had to stope at Bralters school house and get warm. It was pleasanter coming home. Found every body well at home.
March 13, 1896 -- Friday
I was at the store to day and got some muslin and a calico dress. I will have some sewing. I called up to see Mrs A.F. Klee.
March 14, 1896 -- Saturday
I got myself a rattan rocker with money that was my own. I got Frank a pair of shoes. Will and I went to St. Thomas in a sleigh. Sleighing was splendid. We went to see the Mountain Wafe*** played. Were all well at home.

We were all at Sabbath School. Will and I stayed for church. We did not go C.E. or church, the weather was to bad. It snowed all day.
March 16, 1896 -- Monday
It snowed all day until about five o'clock when it stoped. I was up to see Mrs McCleary.

Will took Ethel and I a sleighride this morning.
Will took Mrs A.F. Klee and I to an entertainment in New Franklin.

I was sewing all day, had a headache.

IMrs A.F. Klee called, also Miss Sallie Ackerman. I was to see the Doctor who gave me some medison.

We were all at Sabbath School. Will and I stayed to church. I came home with sick headache. Frank was six years old to day and he feels himself larger. He thinks that he has gotten taller since Saturday.

Snowed this afternoon. I was not feeling so well to day.

Will took Grandma home this morning. Mr Faust took supper with us. Verna and Elva Willie spend one hour with Frank. Having my sewing machine fixed.

I was out to church this evening. Rev Mr Beaver of Marion was to preach but he having the measles could not be here so Mr Shoutz preached.

Mr Shoutz called, also Mrs Huber. I was down street this afternoon. Chant[?] had a big fire last night. The White building was pasrtly destroyed.

The G.A.R. incampment begins to day. Mrs Kissel came to day to help me.

Father and Edie and Grandma Zumbro came to day. I got two boarders W McClellan, Wm Hertzler from McVeytown Pa. Also entertained Mr Welker from Farnettsburg.

Jake came to day and Emma Barnett also Mrs Hoffer and neice and Mr Faust and Bro. Elmer. Jake and Family with Emma Barnett left for home on the 11 o'clock train. Mr Jim Deatrich came to day.

Father and Eddie went home to day also Jim Deatrich. Mr McClellan left this morning.

Mr Hertzler went to Geatesburg[?], will be back to night. Grandma Zumbro and Mrs Kissel left this evening.

Will went to Carlisel in the morning to see a game of ball. I made ice-cream. Will and Frank was out this afternoon to see a game. I sat up at Nicklas all night. Ruth rested right well.

I did not get out to Sabbath School. Will and Frank was their. Will stayed for church. I was at C.E. society and church in the evening.
July 6, 1896 -- Monday
Mrs McCleary and I was at Hagerstown to spend the day. We saw Heg-town and Chamb. play a game of ball. I got the game, had a very nice time. Will met us at the train.

I ironed to day.

I had my shirt waist cut to day.

I maid my shirt wast to day.

Mollie Burger and I was out to see a game of ball. Carlisle played Chamb. Chamb. got the game. I stayed up at Nicklas's all night. Mrs Mathews stayed with me.

I put up 14 qt. of Rasberrys.
We took a long drive out in the country.

We were all at Sabbath School. We had no church Mr Shoutz being away from home. I was at Zion's Reformed in the morning. Frank and I was at C.E. society.

Emma Barnett called. I was doing over a dress. Mrs Yost and and Miss Needy called.

Mollie Burger and I was out at Mrs Palmer's to see the game between Hanover and Chamb. Chamb. got the game.

I had sick headache all day.

Frank and I spent the day at Pen-Mar it being the Reformed reunion. We met Ine[?] and Barnett Zumbro.

Miss Sadie Parker of Mercersburg took supper with us. Mrs Bowers and little son called in the evening.

We were out driving and stayed up at Nicklas with the baby.

Ruth Nicklas passed away this morning now she sleeps in Jesus.

Katie Houser, Mary Nicklas, Frank and I took a drive to Stoufferstown.
Uncle Cal Deatrich took dinner with us and will stay all night.

Mrs Annie Klee and I was to see a game of ball. Uncle Cal left this evening to go to the hospital ware he will have an operation. We came to Graffensburg this evening.

We spent the day very pleasantly.

Frank, Miss Sibert and I took a drive to the top of the mountain.

Uncle Cal Deatrich died this evening.

Miss Cate Spangler brought the sad news of Uncle Cal's death. We were at services this evening. Frank and I was at Sabbath School. We drove to Faettvill to get word when the funeral would be.

Started for home after supper to atend Uncle Cal's funeral. Jake and family came this evening.
August 11, 1896 -- Tuesday
We all went to St Thomas together. It was a very large funeral. Left St Thomas at two o'clock for Chambersburg where we got our team and drove to Graffensburg.

Spent the day very pleasantly, only I had to nurse a sick headache.

Mrs Maurer and Frank and I took a drive to the top of themountain for furns. We all started for home after dinner after having spent a very nice time.

Uncle Charlie and Uncle James Deatrich took dinner with us to day. Bro. Elmer called.

I had sick headache all day. Will, Frank and Ruth went fishing. Frank fell and run a splinter in his leg, the Doctor had to cut it out.

Ruth and I were out to see Bro. Georg's grave and took some flowers out. Ruth went home this evening.

Bro. Ed came this morning to stay over Sunday. Mrs McCleary called.

Ed and I was to Sabbath School. Will stayed home with Frank. Will, Ed and I was to C.E. society. I led. My subject was joy and duty of church membership. Grand ma Nicklas kept Frank.

Mr and Mrs Mower and Will, Frank and I were to Doverstown Camp this afternoon, spent a very pleasant time. Lucy Gillam, daughter of Mrs Gillam, was buried to day, she was only 16 years old.

Will went to York to day on the Excursion. Frank and Harry Klee was at St Thomas. We had a very nice time.

I took some flowers to Bro. Georg's grave that Mother sent. I had a letter from Sadie Klee.
