"No manly boy ever grows tired of sea stories - there is an irresistible fascination about them, and they are a recreation to the mind. Capital books, full of startling incident, clever dialogue, admirable descriptions of sky and water in all their aspects, and plenty of fun. Beautiful books, well printed and illustrated."

"The four-volume "Deep Sea" series was published by Grosset & Dunlap in the 1900's. #4 was also part of the "Outdoor" series; hence the multiplicity of publishers. The first three books seem to have become the foundation for the "Dave Fearless" series; the reprinting of the original "Deep Sea" books was done by Sully, and Garden City took over with volume #4. According to Ilana Nash's Stratemeyer Syndicate webpage, the series was actually written by Edward Stratemeyer and Weldon J. Cobb.
