Publishing info incomplete, and I'm not sure I've found all of the books in the series.

Laura Richards, who hailed from Gardiner, Maine, was the daughter of Julia Ward Howe (wrote "The Battle Hymn of the Republic") and Dr. Samuel Howe, who founded the Perkins School for the Blind (where Helen Keller went to school.) She wrote several series for kids, including the "Margaret Montfort" and "Captain January" series.
