THE SLIM TYLER SERIES
By Richard H. Stone

Notes

Titles

Slim Tyler is an improbably invincible, up-by-his-own-bootstraps type of hero. His very first airplane trip sets the pace for the series. After accidentally stowing away in the tail of a plane while eluding the villain who cheated his dead father, Slim proceeds to perform the following feats:

1) races a tongue of flame to an open gasoline container and fling the container out of the plane, saving the lives of all on board

2) dangle from the end of a pole in mid-air and fixes the plane's rudder (saving the lives of all on board)

3) takes control of the plane (although he's never flown before) when the entire crew (other than himself) are felled by the toxic fumes of a volcano they're flying over (saving the lives -- well, you get the idea.)

4) takes control of the plane again when the entire crew are knocked unconscious by a lightning bolt that hits the plane. Slim, of course, is not affected by lightning.

5) dangles from the end of a rope to save a drowning pirate. Narrowly escapes being eaten by a shark.

6) last, but not least, when the plane is landing, a child runs out into the runway. Slim jumps out of the taxiing plane and carries the child to safety.

As you can see, Slim is a very capable sort of hero! A continuing plotline throughout the series concerns Slim's attempt to recover the money of which his father was cheated by an unscrupulous businessman. Anyone who entertains a second's doubt that Slim will ultimately succeed has clearly not read many of this sort of book before.
