Sixteen-year-old Roberta Langwell, newly graduated from a high school business course, finds work as a secretary at the Lurtiss Airplane Company. When the company decides to have one of its pilots teach an aviation class, Roberta is detailed to sit in on the class and take notes, in the hope that an aviation textbook might be worked up from the pilot's lectures. Becoming more interested in the subject by the day, Roberta is delighted when one of the new pilots offers to take her for her first airplane ride. Eventually, Roberta gets her own pilot's license and becomes Lurtiss' first female stenographer-aviatrix (she and her mother "did a tango around the kitchen, and then went to the talkies to celebrate.")

This series is similar to the Linda Carlton series, but the middle-class heroine is somewhat more believable.
